The challenge

The kitchen was running on individual gas cylinders, which meant service interruptions during peak hours, cylinders stored close to cooking equipment, and no single point of isolation in an emergency. The client needed a continuous, compliant gas supply that could be refilled by tanker without disrupting kitchen operations.

The Approach

How the project was delivered

STEP / 01
Site survey

Assessed available outdoor space, distances to openings and boundaries, tanker access and the routing needed to reach the kitchen appliances.

STEP / 02
Base preparation

A level reinforced concrete base was set out and prepared to carry the tank and keep it clear of standing water.

STEP / 03
Cage fabrication

A ventilated steel mesh security cage with a lockable access door was fabricated, treated and painted to protect the tank and its fittings.

Tank setting & pipework

The horizontal tank was positioned and the vapour line run in correctly coded, supported pipe from the regulator set to the kitchen manifold.

STEP / 05
Safety controls

First-stage regulator, pressure gauge, isolation valves and an emergency shut-off valve reachable from outside the enclosure were fitted.

STEP / 06
Testing & handover

The line was pressure-tested and leak-checked, appliances were purged and commissioned, and kitchen staff were briefed on isolation and emergency procedure.

What was delivered

The kitchen now runs on an uninterrupted bulk gas supply with a lower cost per kilogram than cylinder swaps, all storage moved outside the building into a protected enclosure, and a single clearly marked shut-off point for emergencies.

Before hiring an LPG installer in Kenya

  • Registration. Confirm the contractor is EBK-registered and experienced with commercial gas installations, not only appliance connection.
  • Siting. Ask how tank position was decided — distance to openings, boundaries and ignition sources should be part of the quote, not an afterthought.
  • Enclosure. The cage must be ventilated and lockable; solid boxed-in enclosures trap gas and are unsafe.
  • Testing evidence. Require a pressure and leak test on the completed line before appliances are commissioned.
  • Handover training. Kitchen staff should be shown where the emergency shut-off is and how to isolate the supply.
